| In the opening scene of "The Lion
King," Zazu, the baboon, Shaman of the animal world, takes the
lion cub from his parents and raises him high above the assembled
animal kingdom to show them that this new one that has been born and
to honor his place in their lives. The entire assembly bows down in
awe.
We all feel this awe when we see a new baby,
the wonder and joy of this new life that has joined the
human family.
"Since time began parents have presented their children to
their families and spiritual communities to celebrate their entrance
into the world and the human family." opening words of
Penelope's baby blessing ceremony.
Regardless of your religious beliefs, most parents are eager to
have a sacred baby blessing ceremony to honor their child, to share
their joy and pride and to celebrate their new status as parents.
The baby blessing ceremony Penelope uses is one that involves the
official naming of the child, a christening or baptizing ritual
(which is optional) a recognizing of family members both present and
those remembered.
The baby blessing ceremony also names the individuals chosen to
be Godparents and charges them with the sacred responsibility of
being an ongoing part of the child's life and spiritual growth.
I have had the privilege of doing baby blessing ceremonies for
many of the couples that I have joined in marriage as well as for
families who value this kind of service, but either don't have a
church affiliation or prefer a more informal way of honoring their
child's birth.
Our beautiful beaches have become a popular venue for baby
blessing ceremonies. Other popular sites for baby blessing
ceremonies include Greenfield Lake Park, Airlie Gardens, and
the private homes of family members.
If celebrating your child's life is something you want to share
with your family and friends, I hope you'll contact me. It is my
sacred honor to perform a baby blessing ceremony and to share this
time with your family.
